The My Song sailboat is the passion of a ship owner

What drives an experienced sailor owner who after having developed a working activity with excellent results at some point in his life, decides to sell his established industry to venture into the construction of a large 40 meter long (130 feet) sailing boat to be used for long cruises and for sailing competitions if not the true and authentic passion for the sea and sailing.

This owner already owns a smaller sailboat called My Song 84 feet long (25 meters) very famous among sailing enthusiasts for having won many regattas including the extraordinary Maxi Rolex Cup in the Racing-Cuising category.

The new My Song because it retains the name of other boats of the same owner including the 25-meter My Song, was built in the prestigious Finnish boatyard of Baltic Yacht. While the design of the water lines was carried out by the American study of Reichel and Pugh, the same who designed the My Song of 25 meters while the deck and interior design was taken care of by the Milanese study Nauta Design.

In practice it was chosen the best for the construction of this boat the final result could only be exceptional. In fact, it is currently one of the most beautiful sailing boats in the world and among the most technologically advanced of the moment.

Studied, not to be too heavy, its weight is about one hundred tons are nothing compared to the size and size of the boat including 41 tons are the weight of the ballast.

This was possible because for the construction of the hull was used technologically advanced composite material with a high percentage of carbon.
A special engine propulsion system allows the boat to advance even without the sail system with a propeller foot that descends when the engine needs to be used and salt hiding inside the hull when it is necessary to sail in this way the resistance to the movement is the minimum possible by improving performance. This installed system is called “retractable Propulsion System” by Baltic Yacht.

The boat is equipped with a retractable keel that can go from 7 to 4 meters of draft. The My Song lifting keel, at 36.25 tons, comes from the world of racing yachts. It tapers from top to bottom, which improves hydrodynamic performance and reduces the wet surface, saving about two seconds per mile in straight speed, says Nauta Yachts project director, Martino Majno.

Regarding the structure and equipment of the sail system, the owner can choose between two basic configurations between the regatta and the cruise. The basic sail plan is composed of a 530 square meter mainsail; genoa 380 square meters; gennaker 1,300 square meters. With regatta trim the boat can sail at speeds higher than the actual wind present at that moment because these big boats manage to build apparent wind and therefore great speed even in close-hauled sailing.

With this boat we have chosen to build a simple flat and clean 8.52 meters wide deck that starts around the center of the boat and continues almost in compliance to the stern with a little intrusive tuga and where there are only the necessary things for the management of the boat. We tried to find a compromise solution to build a boat suitable for long cruises and at the same time competitive to win regattas.

“Our specialization is to combine these two things together, but we have never done it to this point. Never. The result was made possible by the extraordinary capabilities of the manufacturer says Mario Pedol of Nauta Yachts also adds the combination of performance, elegance, comfort and functionality is perhaps the most distinctive feature of My Song. Everything has been designed and built to be light even the cable supports and plant passages are made of carbon “.
Even the electronics are perfectly hidden with clear control screens present only in front of the wheel of the helmsman. There are also portable instruments that are used by the crew during the regattas.

The interiors have a cozy, warm style, but at the same time, with a typically marine taste as requested by the owner, are characterized by the presence of a full beam saloon a large master cabin in the bow and behind this cabin is a second smaller bedroom that can also be used as a simple study. Then there are two other double cabins that are located aft of the salon.

The research of the materials used to avoid increasing the weight of the boat was very accurate. In particular, for the creation of floors and ceilings, the choice fell on a resin and linen composite, thus rediscovering the use of natural fibers.

“My vision of the last My Song was for a yacht that would be extremely light, fast and easy to handle: a true competitor of superyacht regattas,” says the boat owner, adding that this had to balance with a “welcoming interior” , comfortable and luxurious “.

All the objectives have been achieved and all the ship owner’s needs have been met. Launched in the summer of 2016 already in 2017 the first attestations of esteem arrived, in fact, the My Song 130 feet won two prizes in the ShowBoats Design Awards 2017. The award for the most innovative yacht and the one for the best Exterior Design and Styling .

It is certainly an important recognition for the Milanese Nauta Yacht Design studio and the study by Reichel and Pugh.

Now we just have to wait until the new My Song equals and exceeds the number of sports victories of the older homonymous even if in a different sailing class. In this regard, the shipowner has issued the following declaration. “The new boat is challenging and challenging, of course it takes time to get to know it and be carried out at its best”. Like all purebred horses born to run, then win.

Perini Navi announces the new Eco Tender 25 m, a very special cabin cruiser.

The support boats or “shadow boats” are usually long boats between 20 and 36 meters designed to offer additional spaces when the mega yacht is not enough.

They are boats that are used by ship owners who already have large yachts but do not have enough space to always meet their needs.

They are boats that usually when used in cruising serve or to reach places where it is not possible to moor with a larger ship or for the overnight stay of the crew, but also of guests or to make room to contain cars and other services.

In addition to satisfying other shipowners’ extravaganzas such as helicopter platforms, saunas and more, they can also be equipped to follow regattas.

To satisfy a request of this type, Perini Navi presented the projects for two new boats, one of which concerns a 25-meter cabin designed to be the support boat for large yachts. This boat is called Eco Tender while the other project announced concerns the construction of a 42-meter sailing yacht called S / Y “Evolution”.

The two projects have been presented together because both offer innovative technological and functional solutions such as the choice of hybrid engines that go well on both small and large boats including sailing boats. In fact, both boats will mount a complicated system of hybrid hybrid propulsion, ideal for sailing in absolute serenity and safety.

“We have accepted the challenge of creating these two new boats with great enthusiasm, commented Lamberto Tacoli, President and CEO of Perini Navi – We are working on new projects with the aim of further strengthening our offer while keeping intact the essential values of Perini Ships: tradition, quality and innovation “.

Going into the specific design of the Eco Tender, the owner asked to create a smaller twin, with all the characteristics of his Perini flagship . With very flexible interior spaces that can accommodate guests including children.

To meet these needs, Perini home designer Franco Romani and his team have designed a 25-meter aluminum boat that is a mix between a tender and a chase boat.

The interiors as they have been requested provide additional accommodation with elegant contemporary style for family and guests.

Obviously the boat is fully equipped including the presence of two drones on board able to go ahead, to explore hidden areas or even for leisure to take some pictures and videos during the holidays.

Wally 110 Barong D “wallista” passion

Sailing enthusiasts on the boats of the Wally brand are divided on the external aesthetics of the boats. In fact, many still prefer the exterior where the various areas are markedly divided with lots of deckhouse and with a single cockpit.

While in the Wally boats the classic cockpit has been replaced by more areas that are cleverly disengaged, usually all on the same level with slender, thin and not very intrusive yards.

Therefore the Wally boat deck is free and elegantly flat with all the hidden management organs. This extreme cleaning of the deck for many is the real news that has revolutionized the way of sailing.

However, there are still many enthusiasts who are not persuaded by the idea that a deck of a boat can be so smooth and compact, much like a dance hall track.

Fortunately, there are manufacturers in the sector that can satisfy the tastes of each owner. While those who love the style of boats Wally hardly then choose to build boats with different characteristics.

This is the case of Wally 110 Barong D, where a loving “wallysta” owner, has built this boat 110 feet long equal to about 33.50 meters after having already owned a Barong C and Barong B, respectively of 94 and 80 feet.

With this model Wally managed to transfer all the technical skills accumulated over the years and at the same time satisfy all the requests expressed by the experienced sailor owner.

The end result was the construction of a beautiful and performing luxury sailboat.

The exterior lines have been designed by Frers Naval Architecture while the interiors have been taken care of by Wally Yachts, always thinking about the performances not excluding elegance and comfort for cruises.

For the construction of the hull advanced composite materials in prepreg carbon fiber have been used to create a super-yacht cruiser fully equipped with just 65 tons about 35% less than a yacht of the same category: “two tons lighter than the expected “, explained the president and CEO of Wally, Luca Bassani also adds:

“We were able to offer a cruiser with exceptional performance that welcomes owners who spend several months of the year on board”.

Wally 110 Barong D totally incorporates all the features of the Wally brand. A fast, simple, elegant and technologically advanced boat was built.

The hull is blue with wide stern, two rudders, T-shaped bulb. The deck including the bow is very clean, and is completely covered with blond teak with a very slim deckhouse and large sunbathing areas. The mast is made of carbon together with the sailing rig with many titanium accessories. The Wally’s sail management system features a self-tacking jib and a regulation system using hydraulic jacks.

The habitability of the interiors  designed by Wally were built piece by piece taking care of every detail minutely to get maximum comfort reducing weight.

Going towards the bow we find a living area and two guest cabins on both sides of the boat with private bathroom and a suite for the owner with two separate beds.

While at the stern was the crew and service area consisting of two double cabins, a kitchen and a machine room. The propulsion of the boat is also guaranteed by the presence of a single Cummins QSB6.7 diesel engine, which gives Barong D a top speed of 13 knots and a cruising speed of 10 knots.

In short, once again a Wally sailboat has been created to be desired.
